Apple Vision Pro 2 Rumours: Lighter Design, Lower Price, and a Dedicated Travel Mode
Source Material
30% Lighter
New composite materials and a redesigned optical assembly target a significant weight reduction from the original's 600g+.
Lower Starting Price
Apple is targeting ~$2,499, down from $3,499, to broaden the addressable market beyond enterprise and early adopters.
Travel Mode
A dedicated aircraft mode adjusts rendering for in-flight use with airline seatback integration in testing.
Apple is preparing a significantly revised second-generation Vision Pro aimed at addressing its two most common criticisms: weight and price. According to Bloomberg, the new headset could arrive as early as late 2026.
Lighter and More Comfortable
The original Vision Pro weighs around 600 to 650 grams, which many users found fatiguing. The second-generation model targets a 30% weight reduction through a redesigned optical assembly and new composite materials. Apple is also testing a revised head strap that distributes weight more evenly, and a battery-free tethered mode for desktop use.
Price
The original launched at $3,499, limiting adoption to enterprise and early adopters. Bloomberg reports Apple is targeting around $2,499 for the successor, with a possible sub-$2,000 configuration. A separate mainstream headset codenamed N109 remains on a longer timeline and is not expected before 2028.
Travel Mode
A new dedicated travel mode would adjust field-of-view and rendering for aircraft cabins and integrate with a Seatback Display standard several airlines are testing with Apple. visionOS 3, shipping alongside the new hardware, is said to include a redesigned home environment and improved EyeSight display fidelity.
